Michael is a nonresident senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. An expert on China’s economy, he is professor of finance at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, where he specializes in Chinese financial markets. From 2002 to 2004, he also taught at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management and, from 1992 to 2001, at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. Prior to this he worked on Wall Street trading, capital markets, and corporate finance starting in 1987. He entered Columbia University in 1976 and earned a Master of International Affairs in Economic Development in 1981, followed by an MBA in Finance in 1984.
